Sooty has had a passion for trucks his whole life. Starting at the age of five riding in D series Fords and Dodges with the NZ Forest Services Hawkes Bay Metal Fleet. Schooling ended in New Plymouth where he completed a Mechanical Apprenticeship before joining AR West Logging as a fleet Mechanic Driver. A full-time driving opportunity came from McCarthys which he jumped at. A move to JD Hickmans provided General Freight experience before gaining his first Owner Driver contract with Owens Tankers’ Challenge Fuel contract, progressing on to Caltex, Hot Bitumen, LPG, and General Freight at Hooker Pacific. Fast forward 14 years from Fulltime Offshore in Maintenance and Crane driving, a return to the Transport Industry came with the purchase of Clive Taylor Ltd in 2021.

Roman brings over 45 years of experience in the transport industry to Clive Taylor Haulage, with a career that reflects both depth of knowledge and a strong hands-on background. Beginning his journey in the late 1970s as an apprentice Motor Body Coach Builder, Roman developed a solid technical foundation before moving into metro delivery driving across the Napier and Hastings region. He later progressed into linehaul operations, working extensively throughout New Zealand. After 12 years in Hawke’s Bay, Roman returned to his hometown and transitioned into precast concrete cartage, before moving into transporter and heavy haulage work, specialising in over-dimensional freight. His broad operational experience eventually led him from the driver’s seat into a leadership role as Branch Manager for the Ōtaki branch of Hooker Bros. During his time there, Roman successfully grew the branch from a fleet of five trucks to ten units, while also coordinating closely with other Hooker Bros branches to support nationwide coverage. He has also been involved in supporting many of the lower North Island expressway projects, providing flat deck and heavy haulage transport solutions. Following a move to a Palmerston North-based transport company, Roman and Alana were tasked with building and expanding a flat deck fleet, a goal they achieved within three years before seeking their next opportunity. Shortly after considering his next step, a conversation with Clive Taylor Haulage presented the perfect fit. Roman now brings his extensive industry knowledge, practical expertise, and approachable nature to the team. Known for always making time to support both drivers and customers, Roman values strong relationships and practical solutions.

Andy has squeezed in a wealth of experiences immersed in Trucking in the Horowhenua. Gisborne born ’n’ bred, he quickly found his feet in Levin and the love for the Transport industry was apparent. Gathering knowledge and skills from JB’s worked him up to a Class 5 role quickly, operating all of the top gear in their fleet. A move to Clive Taylor Ltd had him grounded in not only Tipper work but also Flat deck specialised cartage as well as transporting and civil contracts. Hotmix and bulk cartage on M2PP was where it all started. Andy worked his way into a new Hardox unit, ROCKDOG, where the hunger for Boulder Cartage began. The company now has 7 dedicated Rock units operating today. Andy dispatches CTH workloads through The MyTrucking Program to not only our own operators but also our Subbies and Clients for transparency.

Judith’s long service with this business had her working for Clive Taylor for 14 years before transitioning to the new ownership where she has been a pivotal part of all financial aspects of the business. Judith quickly moved from a part-time role to fulltime with the growth of the company and the development of the MyTrucking Logistics app with which she is a Ninja. Integrating this with her accounting software makes Judith’s position important for whenever client interaction is required.

Tania brings her extensive experience in the oil and gas industry to the trucking industry where she was the 2023 winner of the Transporting NZ Health and Safety Award. Prior to acquiring Clive Taylor Haulage Tania was Operations Manager at a large Health and Safety business in Taranaki, where she gained her passion for training and investing back into the team. Tania handles the HR and H&S aspects of the business. Tania quickly found gaps in the Clive Taylor Haulage SOP’s and immediately went to work fabricating the framework around internal systems to easily achieve an operating and maintaining PreQual in H&S with TOTIKA. Something the whole CTH Team is very proud of.
